Donald Calvin McKee June 21, 1951 – May 20, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Donald Calvin McKee, 67, died peacefully at his home at 3:38 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2019. He was born June 21, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio a son of Calvin C. and Rosemary (Lothamer) McKee. His formative years were spent in Fort Wayne where he graduated from South Side High School in 1969.

For the past 28 years, he has been a resident of rural Columbia City. He had been employed by Verizon (GTE) for 37 years as an electronics technician. During the early 1970’s he was a weekend disc jockey for WMEE – AM radio for which he held an FCC license.

He had also worked for Es Wire, Fort Wayne. Until recent years, he liked to stay active playing in the GTE bowling and golf leagues. He loved to hunt and fish.

He found relaxation in playing his drum set. Always a family man, he took pleasure in telling his children and grandchildren stories of his past. Surviving are his two daughters, Tracy S. (Mike Mickelini) McKee-Mickelini, Columbia City and Tara L. (Tracey Salter) McKee-Salter, Fort Wayne; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; his mother, Rosemary Grist, Rome City and his sister, Patricia (Keith) Squier, New Haven.

He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin McKee; a brother, Jim McKee and a sister, Carol Grigsby. Per Donald’s request, there will be no services. Arrangements were entrusted to Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
