Mr. Donald Earl Meyer, age 82, of Milton, FL, formerly of Nebo, NC, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at his home. A native of Wilbur Township in Michigan, he was born on January 25, 1937 to the late Earl Dunbar Meyer and Twilah Emma Meikle. He served faithfully in the U. S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959.

Upon leaving military service, he went to work for the General Motors Corp. at the Buick Plant in Flint, Michigan where he worked as a Journeyman Carpenter, and retired from there following 33 years of service. He was a Mason and a Shriner and was a Past Master in the Lodge and entertained many as “Fancy the Clown” in the Elf Khurafeh Shrine Circus.

After retirement, Don and his wife, Donna Burnette Meyer, who preceded him in death in September of 2003, took up residency in McDowell County, NC, Donna’s birthplace. Ever the civic and community minded person, Don soon immersed himself in doing things to help his fellow man during his retirement years. He was a member of the Marion Moose Lodge #1705 where he served on the Ritual Ceremony Team.

Don was also an advocate for Juvenile Justice. He was also a skilled wood carver, a juggler and a novice magician. In addition to his wife, Don was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua, and a granddaughter, Jessica.

Surviving are five children, Donna Jean Gillette of Deare, NH, Andrew John Meyer and wife Leah of Orlando, FL, Douglas Meyer and wife Dolly of Pensacola, FL, Lisa Anne Reyes and husband Richard of Lewisburg, TN, and Wayne Wyatt of Marion, NC; two sisters, Marian Whitehead and Patricia Leiblong, both of Michigan; two brothers, Robert Meyer and wife Beverly and Dennis T. Meyer and wife Barbara, all of Michigan; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A service of remembrance and celebration of his life will take place on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Warren Owens officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial, with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will follow at Hicks Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved Donna. Flowers are acceptable and appreciated, however, those desiring to make a memorial contribution in his memory are encouraged to consider the Alzheimer’s Association at www.
