FAIRFIELD – Donald Edward Millington, 82 of 470 Cole Rd, Little Falls, NY fell asleep in death at his home, on May 25 2018, after a brief illness, with his loving family by his side. Don was born March 23, 1936 second child of William (Bill), and Freeda (Gillen) Millington, only 2 farms down from his current residence in Fairfield. He was united in marriage to Millie Putnam on November 24,1956 in Fort plain NY.

Soon after, they purchased the dairy farm where they would go on to raise their 8 children. He continued operating the dairy until Sept. 2017, but still kept on with his young stock and even milking a few cows on his own until March 23rd.

Don was absolutely a one-of-a-kind man. Once you met him, you were sure to never forget him. With his larger-than-life stature, and big calloused hands that told the story of a life worked to the full; he had an inadvertent way of commanding respect when he walked into a room.

You couldn’t help but want to spend time with him and become his friend. His incredible skill for wit, and always making people laugh, quickly made him friends wherever he went. His fondness for old John Deere’s was readily apparent anytime you drove past his farm.

In March 1973 he became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and thereafter was a constant spiritual mentor to so many, helping people through the worst of times. He set a stellar example of what being a husband, father, and friend really means. His genuine care for others was impossible to go unnoticed.

He gave everything he had, and everything he could, to raise his family, help friends and strangers alike; and share his firm faith and strong belief in a bright hope for mankind’s future, with anyone he could. Words cannot express the depth that he will be missed by every one of the hundreds of lives he touched. We feel incredibly blessed to have had this legend of a man in our lives.

He is truly unforgettable. Surviving are his cherished wife Millie, at home; his 7 beloved sons and their wives: Donald Jr (Joyce), of South Lansing NY, Kevin (Nancy) of Boscawen NH, John (Amy) of Pine Bush, NY, Lee (Debbie) of Fairfield, Bill (Jerri-Ann) of Marathon NY, Tom (Heidi) of Fairfield, David (Amy) of Fairfield, his dear daughter & her husband: Juleeann & John Steciak of Salisbury; and his 8 cherished grandchildren: Katelynn (Jason) Horth, Jaclynn (Branden) Davis, Leah (Logan) Learned, Travis, Logan, Kevin, Hannah, and Chloe Millington, a great-grandson on the way, sister Jane Slaboc, Little Falls, sister in law Anne Millington, Palatine Bridge and many very special cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his Father in 1971, his Mother in 2005, his brother Leland in 1998, and his sister Beverly Bergen on March 24, 2018.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the Dolgeville Central School Auditorium, 38 Slawson, St., Dolgeville, NY with Don’s longtime friend Elder Dan Houghton, New York City officiating. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY. The family would like to give their heartfelt and deepest appreciation to the entire staff of Hospice and Palliative Care for all of the care, kindness and compassion shown to Don and his family over the recent weeks.
