OBITUARY Donald Frederick Graves October 11, 1953 – January 6, 2019 Play Tribute Movie A memorial service will be at 6:00pm Thursday at Morgan Funeral Chapel for Donald “Don” Frederick Graves, 65 of Attalla, who died on January 6, 2019 Mr. Graves was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Graves Sr. and Margaret Graves. As a young adult, Don was an outdoorsman and a regional director for the Boy Scouts of America. In 1980 he began his career in education where he loved making a difference in the lives of many.

He began as a special education teacher and then as principal in Gadsden City and St. Clair County Schools until finishing out his career at Whitesboro Elementary School in Etowah County. He was the principal at Whitesboro for 17 years. He will forever remembered by all who came in contact with him.

He was a paramedic and fireman throughout his adult life. He instructed EMT classes at Gadsden State Community College. He was a former member of Steele Volunteer Fire Department and was also actively involved in the Sand Valley Fire Department where he was a board member.

He enjoyed traveling and taking photos of all the adventures during his life. He was a loving PaPa who deeply cared for his grandsons. He fought a long hard battle with cancer be is now completely healed with the Lord.

Don is survived by his wife of 19 years, Joann Graves; son, Marcus (Reanna) Graves; daughter, Melia (Cayce) Griffith; grandsons, Rhett Bowlin, Marshall Graves, Cayson Griffith; brothers, Jack Jr. (Sunita) Graves, Jon Graves and other family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sand Valley Fire Department or Whitesboro Elementary School. Special thanks to Sand Valley Fire Department, Matt Carnes, Michael Johnson and David Devin.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 4pm-6pm at Morgan Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
