Obituary for Donald Leroy Pickering Donald Leroy Pickering, 91 years, of Wells, died January 10, 2019 at York Hospital. Donald was born February 24, 1927 in Boston, MA, a son of Arthur and Florence (Gay) Pickering. He graduated from Billerica Memorial High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Donald worked for 28 years as a rural route carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. On June 28, 1952, Don married Elaine Davidson. Together the celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage love and friendship until her passing in 2009.

Don and Elaine were Baptist Youth Fellowship leaders and maintained a close relationship with them and their families throughout their lives. After retiring to Maine, Don and Elaine became very involved with the Wells Congregational Church. In addition to Sunday services, Don was involved with the book bank and helped with meals for Soup’s On.

Don and Elaine also organized a photo contest at their home that grew over its 29-year history to include over a hundred people to the all-day event. In addition to his wife, Elaine, Don was predeceased by his brother, Arthur L. Pickering and by his sister, Evelyn Mahan. Don is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Lisa Pickering of Wells; his son, Craig Pickering of Lowell, MA; his grandchildren, Tanya Pickering, Leda Hansen and Elias Stack; his great grandchildren, Tahlia, Harrison and Cynthia; his cousins, nieces and nephews from Nova Scotia and Massachusetts; and this list would not be complete without mentioning his beloved dog, Atticus Finch Pickering.

Friends may visit on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 1-3 pm at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, ME. A memorial service will be held during that time of visitation.
