Donald L. Kemmer, 89, of Bemidji, MN passed away at his home on April 30, 2018. He was born in Pennington, MN on February 20, 1929 to Donald E. and Florence (Nyquist) Kemmer. Don attended multiple schools growing up, including Cass Lake, 2 years of Agricultural school in Grand Rapids, MN, attend his first year of high school in California before moving back to Minnesota where he graduated from Kelliher High School.

Don’s love of driving truck started when he was 15 years old, hauling timber, which lead to owning and operating Kemmer Trucking. Don also hauled grain for years, then worked road construction, hauled mail and worked up on the north slope of Alaska, finishing his long trucking career with Magnuson Trucking of Bemidji. Don had a great amount of love for his family which he was extremely proud of, and enjoyed every minute he would spend with them.

Don enjoyed doing many different activities throughout his fulfilled life. Don was never one to sit still and was always a busy man. He loved hunting and fishing with his family, and would spend hours sitting in the darkhouse spearing.

Don was a very talented man who could do anything he would put his mind to, including building or fixing anything. He loved get togethers which would include many nights singing along with good ol’ country western music, dancing, and playing his shirt snaps with the Zippo lighter. Don was also a volunteer fireman, Head of the Sportsman’s Club, Justice of the Peace, while he was living in Kelliher.

He married Ingrid (Spangrud) Kemmer on June 16, 1979 and moved to Bemidji. They had 2 children Donald O. Kemmer and Dean (Lori) Kemmer, both of Bemidji. Don also had 7 children from a previous marriage to Alma Neft, Ronald Kemmer (Ilene) of Billings, MT, Susie (Gary) Nyberg of Bemidji, Debbie (Jeff) Allison of Bemidji, Joe (Deb) Kemmer of Bemidji, Jeff (Raevonne) Kemmer of Mekinock, ND.

Don had 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Don is survived by his sister, Delores (Kemmer) Shannon of Sun City West, AZ. Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother Glen, daughter Colleen (wife of Dave) Ethen and an infant daughter, Mary.

As per Don’s wishes there will be no services held at this time. Arrangements are by Midwest Cremation Association, Walker, Minnesota.
