Donald’s Obituary Donald Linwood Spurrier of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, died peacefully at home on Friday, May 17, 2019, at the age of 98. Born December 12, 1920, in Brunswick, Maryland, he joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and was stationed in Pearl Harbor when it came under attack in 1941. After his tour of duty, he married Irene Schmid and returned to Brunswick, where he worked as an electrician for Potomac Power and Light Company.

He attended and graduated from Washington Bible College, courtesy of the G. I. Bill. In 1955, Don and Irene with their four children moved to Harmony Heart Camp, a Christian children’s camp north of Scranton, Pennsylvania, where Don became the maintenance supervisor and eventually camp director until his retirement in 1987. He also pastored the Open Bible Fellowship Church in not-so-nearby Lake Ariel during some of those years.

Don and Irene then moved to Dillsburg to be near two of their sons. He has remained active for many years with church and volunteer activities (New Hope Ministries, Meals on Wheels) and was a member of Dillsburg Senior Center and Dillsburg Brethren in Christ Church. Don was preceded in death by his brother, Edward L. and his wife Irene.

He is survived by three sons: Bob (Bev) of Nokesville, Virginia; John (Esther) of Dillsburg and James (Faithe), also of Dillsburg. Daughter Virginia of Dillsburg, who was Don’s primary caregiver in his later years, also survives. Don was “Papa” to ten grandchildren and “Great Papa” to seventeen great-grandchildren.

He was also “Uncle Don” to hundreds of children and youth through his 32 years in ministry at Camp. Loving God and loving people characterized his life. Memorial services will be held Friday, June 21, 2019, at 1:00 pm in the Dillsburg Brethren in Christ Church, 18 East Harrisburg St., Dillsburg.

Burial will follow in the Grantham Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to Dillsburg Brethren in Christ Church, 18 E Harrisburg Sreet, Dillsburg, PA 17019.
