Obituary for Donald R. Johnson Donald R. Johnson, 79, of Minden passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Kearney County Health Services in Minden. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden with the Rev. Daniel Davis officiating.

Private family inurnment will be held prior to services at the Minden Cemetery. There will be no visitation as the family is honoring Don’s wish to be cremated. Craig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Don was born on September 15, 1938 in Franklin County, Nebraska to Frank and Oveline (Roy) Johnson. He grew up in Campbell and graduated from the Campbell High School. On August 21, 1958 he was inducted to the United States Army, where he faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War, until being honorably discharged on May 23, 1960.

Don was united in marriage to Sandra K. Dalton on August 25, 1962 in Minden. The couple made their home south of Norman where he farmed and raised his family. He was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden.

Don was also an avid collector of antique tractors and took pride in restoring his father’s 1948 International Harvester M. Don also enjoyed being a part of many tractor pulls. He built “The Pull Toy” tractor sled for pulling antique tractors and was an exhibitor at the Old Trusty Day Tractor pull. He also restored a 1941 Taylorcraft airplane with his son Shawn.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sandra K. Johnson; sons, Shawn Johnson and wife Shari and Michael Johnson and wife Cassie; daughters, Paige Schuppan and husband Tracy and Polly Brown and husband Walter; 11 grandchildren; brother, Dale Johnson; sisters, Marjorie Johnson, Audrey Christensen and Janice Schell; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Haldine Johnson. Tributes of memory can be shared with the family at www.
