Donald W. Alexander, 78, of Williamsport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at Manor Care Jersey Shore. Born May 16, 1940, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Raymond W. and Joan L. (Spencer) Alexander.

A graduate of Williamsport High School, Don served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was the youngest barber ever to serve the Williamsport area when he received his apprentice’s license at age 14. Don continued working as a self-employed barber for more than 40 years.

Don was a member of New Covenant Church of Christ where he was involved in many church activities. He was a life member of American Legion Post 1, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 145 where he served as a past officer, the USS Boxer Veterans Association, VFW Post 6755 and a member of the S.O.L. 40 & 8 and Highland Lake Association. Don was a gifted story teller, who loved animals and talking about his most memorable shrimp boat experience.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and in his later years, doing jigsaw puzzles. Don was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and New York Yankee fan who adored his family. Surviving are five children, Raymond W. Alexander II (Wanda), Todd W. Alexander (Denise), all of Jersey Shore, Tammy M. Thompson, of Wilkes Barre, Cindy K. Alexander, of Jersey Shore, and Donna J. Curchoe (Stephen), of Williamsport; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joan Howard, of Williamsport.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his loving wife of 26 years, Doris J. (Turnbach) Alexander on Nov. 30, 2011. A funeral service to honor the life of Donald will be held 12 noon, Wednesday, Oct.

24, at New Covenant Church of Christ, 202 E. Third St., Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery with full military honors. A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at church.
