Donna M. Longcore, 90 Longtime area resident Donna M. Longcore, passed away at her home on Crooked Lake surrounded by her loving family on June 19, 2018. Donna was born the eldest of eight children born to Hubert and Doris (Reed) Bachelor in Montrose, Michigan, on October 27, 1927. Donna grew up in Montrose and was a graduate of Montrose High School in 1945.

On June 21, 1947 she married Laurence “Larry” Longcore. The couple made their home in Troy until 1971, when they moved to Petoskey to become the Co-Owners of Bachelor’s Sales. Donna and Larry retired in 1986 and began splitting their time between Petoskey and Florida.

Being the eldest of eight, it was only natural for Donna to be very family oriented. She was a wonderful daughter, a caring sister, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother; she was the rock of her family, and a loyal friend. Her surviving siblings, her grandchildren, daughter in law and many nieces and nephews describe her in these ways.

“She was strong willed, quick witted and always positive,” “in a word she was amazing”, “she was opinionated but fair, tough but compassionate”, “they simply don’t make them like Donna Mae anymore”. Donna was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Petoskey. She was a member of the Petoskey Bay View Country Club and a member of the Business & Professional Women’s Club of Petoskey.

Donna’s surviving family includes her two grandsons, Bryan (Rebecca) Longcore and Larry Longcore, great grandchildren, Leeland, Lydia, Wyatt and Silas, her daughter in law, Julie Longcore, her siblings, Dale (Nancy) Bachelor and Marilyn Burrows, and sisters in law, Barb Bachelor and Marilyn Bachelor. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry and by both of her children, Ron Longcore and Bonnie Sue Boyd. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Ruth (Jim) Evers, Thelma (Don) Festerling, Herbert “Herb” Bachelor, Al Bachelor, Jean (Herb) Mundt and brother in law, George Burrows.

Donna’s family are planning to remember and celebrate her life at her home on Crooked Lake at 2820 U.S. 31N. Alanson, MI 49706 on Saturday, August 18th, from 1-3p.m. with a service at 2:00 p.m. led by, Rev. David Smits.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband and daughter in Greenwood Cemetery. Those wishing to remember Donna through a charitable contribution are asked to consider JDRF, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www. jdrf.org.
