Donna’s Obituary Donna Burt, 67, Minot, ND, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018, at a Trinity Health in Minot. Donna Faye Burk was born May 21, 1951, the daughter of Elwood Fredrick and Martha Elizabeth (Riley) Burk, in Riverside, CA. Donna had a strong desire to learn.

She was raised in a military family, who had been stationed in Germany twice. They moved to Tempe, AZ in the summer of 1968. Donna completed high school with honors and was accepted to the School of Education Arizona State University in 1969.

Her plan was to be an elementary school teacher. Donna met her future husband Michael Burt and shared their first date Valentine’s Day in 1970. Donna and Michael had a beautiful Mass uniting them in marriage on May 12, 1973, at the Newman Center, ASU.

The couple moved to Sacramento, CA, this is where Michael started his 28-year career in the USAF. Michael’s first assignment was Minot AFB in 1975 until 1980 which was followed by a move to Texas. While in Texas the couple was blessed with their daughters, Mary in 1980 and Katie in 1983.

They then moved to Merced, CA. In 1984, Donna was first diagnosed with breast cancer. It was then that Michael put in a request to be assigned to Minot again as the couple were looking for the best environment for their daughters to be educated.

They were blessed with a son, David in 1986. While raising three children, Donna completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing through the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. After finishing her degree, she accepted a job as a civilian nurse with the Minot Air Force Base in 1993.

She served as a community health nurse specialist with additional training as a lactation consultant. From 2002 to 2009, she assisted Michael with the Minot AFJROTC as a nurse. She then retired in 2013, after being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.

Donna worked with the medical teams in Minot and at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, until her passing. Donna enjoyed sewing, tending to her garden and numerous house plants and helping others. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister, who loved to spend time with her three grandchildren and touched a lot of lives.

Surviving family includes: husband of 46 years, Michael Burt; children, Mary Elizabeth (Terry) Hanson, Blaine, MN, Kathryn Ann (Jason) Burt, Minot, ND and David Michael (Kristin) Burt, Miramar Beach, FL; grandchildren, Maximilian Harvey, Ozzie Allan and Betty Beah Hanson all of Blaine, MN; sister, Marsha Ann (Jim) Donahue, Chandler, AZ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elwood and Martha Burk. Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, May 10, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

A private family Inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials: are preferred to St. John’s Catholic Church or to the American Cancer Society.
