Donna Faye Poynter (nee Melton), age 72, New Castle, IN, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019 after a long illness at IU Health Ball Hospital surrounded by family. Donna was born on October 23, 1946 to the late Ed and Edith “June” Melton (nee Smith). Donna was a graduate from Hagerstown High School and Michael’s Beauty Academy.

She worked for Dana Corporation where she retired after 30 years. Donna enjoyed life and worked as a bartender at the New Castle Moose Lodge for many years post retirement. She also enjoyed volunteering and the month of May was always dedicated to “working flowers” in support of Cerebral Palsy.

Donna was a caring and compassionate person always putting the interests and happiness of others before her own. She loved the beach and enjoyed many beach vacations with her family and friends. In her spare time she loved to read and watch reruns of NCIS.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Edna “June” Melton; sister Phyllis Clark (nee Melton); and brother, Robert “Bobby” Melton. Those left to cherish Donna’s memory are her husband of 55 years, Michael “Wildman” Poynter, her two daughters Regina (Ronnie) Wilkinson of Spiceland, Indiana and Misty (Jason) Brodigan of McKinney, Texas, and her granddaughter Kristi Reynolds of Connersville, Indiana. Other survivors include her godson, Zaylen; her “other daughter”, niece, Tammy Clark; and Donna’s siblings Buddy (Judy) Melton, Danny (Rosie) Melton, Mike (Cookie) Melton, Rick (Debbie) Melton, Teresa Brown, and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family expresses their deepest thanks for the compassionate care over her recent hospital admissions at IU Ball Hospital. In lieu of flowers, Donna has asked that donations be made to Cerebral Palsy of Henry County, 307 Roland Lane, New Castle, IN. There will be no public services.
