Ms. Ethel Marie Archey, 92, of New Castle passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019 at her residence. She was born February 27, 1927 in New Castle to the late Martha (Boatright) Epperson. Ms. Ethel was a graduate of New Castle High School and longtime member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she was in the choir, director of the youth choir and women’s missionary group.

She worked many years at the New Castle State Hospital as a Patient Attendant and actively volunteered with Westminster Community Center and the Head Start Program. Ms. Ethel was also the last living member of the Socialites. She was known in her neighborhood as a “mother” to all the neighbor children.

She loved watching her grandchildren play sports and spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Janis (Mike) Smith, Wanda Sue Baker, Denny (Julie) Archey, Lisa Archey, Cathy (James) Morgan and Briana Archey; grandchildren, Stephanie (Don) Cox, Janell Smith, Heather Smith, Tisha Baker, Kim Baker, Todd (Christy) Baker, Kelly (Stacey) Archey, Darnell (Amanda) Archey, Tara Archey, Angel Johnson, Malivai Morgan, Amira Morgan, Ryan Blankenship, Jaden Archey and Trenton Archey; 13 great grandchildren; brother, James Jamerson and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Coleman Archey Jr; sons, Kenny Archey and Donald Bruce “Buttons” Archey; grandchild, Cara Myers; sisters, Evelyn Boatright and Marilyn Jamerson and a son in law, Larry Baker.

Services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 1801 Shopp Ave, New Castle. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the church on Saturday.
