It was Friday, February 20, 1931 in Noxubee County, Mississippi {the community of Brooksville}, it was there that as the Midwife was summonsed, Leroy & Everett Lenora Thomas Sam’s was preparing to give birth to their awaiting family’s 7th child. A baby girl was born and they called her Doris Eugenia. The family grew and worshipped in the Brooksville community.

Servitude was instilled within Sams family early. Leroy served as a deacon and a Sunday School Superintendent at their home church, Pilgrim Rest. In Doris’ early years, the family moved from Brooksville to Ensley, Alabama for better job opportunities.

Throughout Doris’s life in Alabama, her life was committed to serving others. The Sams family joined with the First Baptist Church Anniesburg. It was there, under the leadership of Reverend Ruben Alexander Anderson, that Doris confessed her faith in Jesus Christ and served as an usher.

Doris Sam’s was a loving daughter, a caring sister, feisty aunt, good mother, beautiful cousin, funny sister-in-law, happy grandmother and sweet great-grandmother! Doris’s was preceded in death by her parents, nine siblings and son. Doris’s memories will be cherished by: Warren E. Sams II {grandson}, Warren E. Sams III {great-grandson}, two sister-in-laws: Ara Jean Jones-Sams & Perolia Edwards-Sams, thirteen nephews, six nieces, hosts of great nieces & nephews, Sam’s & Weatherby cousins, and her beloved Pastor & the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church family!
