Doris Jean Shero Holland passed away October 16, 2018 at Park Place Nursing Home in Selma, Al. She was born In Mineral Wells, TX on April 22, 1929. She is survived by sons, Michael Lynn Holland (Carol) of Plano, TX and David Lee Holland of New York City and Selma; sister, Fran Shero Davis; brother-in-law, Charles David Bagby, II.

; sister-in-law Alta Jerrine Holland Crawford (Bobby), of Lillian, AL; grandson Michael Shero Holland of Tempe, AR; granddaughter Melissa Cher Holland Roach (Sean) and great-grandchildren Ethan Michael Roach and Brenna Caitlin Roach of Savannah, TX; many nephews, nieces, in-laws and dear friends especially Bo Spencer. She was predeceased by her parents, Doley Weldon Shero and Eva Jean McMinn Shero, husband, Homer Lee Holland and sons Richard “Ricky” Alan Holland and Robert Mark Holland. She and her husband opened Holland Jewelers in Selma in 1962.

She was the first female Horological Institute of America Certified Watchmaker in the U.S., was a Bridal Consultant with The Bridal Association of America, studied jewelry design and gemology at the Gemological Institute of America, annually attended conclaves of the American Gem Society and received a Praktische Gemmologie Diploma from A. Ruppenthal KA in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. She was a co-founder and instructor at the Holland School for Jewelers. A faithful follower of Jesus Christ her entire life, she was a founding member of the Summerfield Church of Christ.

A member of the Selma Community Concert Association, she served as president for many years. She was a longtime member of Alpha 1 Civitan and was president, vice president, secretary and treasurer many times. She served on the Cahaba Mental Health Board of Directors.

She traveled extensively and visited more than 45 U.S. states and numerous foreign countries. Visitation will be on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Lawrence Brown – Service Funeral Home in Selma, AL followed by graveside funeral service at New Live Oak Cemetery with Church of Christ Minister, Hunter Bulger.
