Obituary of Doris Sculco “If there ever comes a day where we can’t be together, keep me in your heart. I will stay there forever”. Doris May Sculco, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 1, 2019.
Born on December 30th, 1927, in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Thelma Pochan. Doris married Jeremiah Anthony Sculco on July 2, 1949, in their hometown. They resided in Poughkeepsie for many years, raising a beautiful family of six children, before moving to Hyde Park where they resided until their passing.
Jeremiah predeceased her in July of 2006. Her son, Jeremiah Sculco Jr., also predeceased her. In addition to raising her family, Doris worked for many years as a pressman at Western Printing and Eastern Offset – both in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Doris also took to gardening, crafting and sewing. She avidly canned and baked goods, and cooked meals to feed an army. During the holidays, both she and Jerry used their many talents to render each Christmas special.
Their daughter’s fondly look back on the beautiful Barbie doll clothes and doll houses made by hand. Not to mention her Christmas cookies, enjoyed by all! Just as Doris counted her blessings every day, she was the blessing that everyone could count on.
She loved and supported unconditionally, and shared her talents and wisdom with joy. She too will be remembered for her beautiful smile and pithy sense of humor, which always lit up the room. Ninety-one years young, and having lived a full life, she is survived by a large and loving family including her children, Tina (Kim) Keil of Rhinebeck, NY, Lisa Cerniglia of Clinton Corners, NY, Donna (Jay) Lieske of Pleasant Valley, NY, Karen Frateschi of Syracuse, NY, and John (Paula) Sculco of Poughkeepsie, NY; her grandchildren Vincent and Briana, Brandon (Kate), Amanda (Brian), Jonathan (Amanda), Robbin (Scott), Jeremiah (Chelsea), Thomas (Karen), Paul, John, Joelle and Jason; her great grandchildren Quinn, Derek, Maia, Weston, Norah, Wyatt, Elora, Sadie, Anthony, Aaron, Rebekah, Justin, Lindsey, Anthony, Elaine, Juliana, John III, Skyler, Angelina and Jeremiah.
“Mom, Nanny, Great Grandma, Aunt Doe” you are loved now and forever. Your immediate presence will be missed every day. Until we meet again, we will, as you always said, “take each day one step at a time, putting one foot in front of the other”.
There will be no Calling Hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 8th, 2019 at St. Christopher’s Church, Red Hook, NY. Interment will be at the family plot in St. Peters Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
