Obituary for Dorothy Bohannon Stinson Mrs. Dorothy Bohannon Stinson, age 87, died March 20, 2018 in Florida. A graveside and internment service will be held at Orphan’s Cemetery in Eastman, GA on April 28, 2018 at 2pm. She was a small-town girl, raised in Dodge County, GA and graduated Valedictorian of her Eastman High School class.
She attended Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. Dorothy met and married her husband, Robert W. (Bob) Stinson in 1950. A few years later, they moved to Illinois and raised six children, collectively known as “The K’s”.
Dot was very involved with church and keeping the children “on the straight and narrow”. Raising six kids was a full-time job, which she did with a firm hand and unconditional love. Dot was always taking them to explore new activities, introducing them to new experiences and involving herself in their interests.
She was both a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader. She was their chauffeur to dance and music lessons, cheerleading practices, as well as baseball, football, track and field practices. Following a move to Michigan and as the children began reaching high school age, Dot became a certified professional secretary, working in the banking and insurance industries.
She continued in this career as the family moved to Florida, then South Carolina. However, her career was cut short following a tragic auto accident at the age of 50. This event left her with residual, debilitating physical injuries, but never daunted or suppressed her positive mental spirit, a trait she shared with her mother and sister.
She and Bob eventually retired to Florida to be near family and to enjoy the sunshine, warm weather, and visiting kids and grandkids, friends and family. Dot had many varied interests throughout her life. She had an inquiring mind and would often look for new projects.
A few of her interests were sewing, crafts, Bridge, and genealogy. She had a strong Christian faith throughout her life and enjoyed sharing her faith with anyone who was interested. She instilled staying in touch with friends, family and loved ones as well as to continue to have great adventures together.
Her generosity, sense of humor, positive attitude and intellect inspired others throughout her whole life. She is survived by daughters, Kathleen Wenzel (Mark), Kim Rubel, and KayLynn Raiford; daughter-in-law, Janine Stinson; sons, Kevin Stinson (Tony) and Kerry Stinson (Kris); nephew, Alex Pruett; grandchildren, Luke Stinson, Brianna and Kyle Rubel, Sarah and Meghan Wenzel, Julian, Sam, and Jack Raiford, Jamison Stinson, Ryan and Taylor Hedgecock. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert W. Stinson; son, Kenneth A. Stinson; sister , Lynda B. Pruett; brother-in-law, Jack L. Pruett; and son-in-law, Barry Rubel.
