OBITUARY DOROTHY E GARCIA February 2, 1921 – September 6, 2018 Dorothy E. (Amancio) Garcia, age 97, passed away at The Oaks, New Bedford. She was the wife of the late Antone M. Garcia. Dorothy lived in Fairhaven for 50 years.

Born in Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard, she was the daughter of the late Jiles F. Amancio and Wilhelminia (Moniz) Amancio. She worked as a cafeteria worker at Hastings Junior High School in Fairhaven for 17 years until her retirement. Dorothy was an avid BINGO player and yard saler.

Survivors include a daughter; Joann Scherzinger and her husband Michael of Hamilton, Ohio, a son, Donald Garcia of Ochalawaha, Florida, daughter, Autumn Hill and her husband Darrel of West Virginia, a sister; Mildred T. Dias of Fairhaven, grandchildren; Debra O’Leary of Berkley, Marguerite Arsenault of CT, Christy Garcia of TN, Sean Perry of OH, Rebekka Scherzingerof OH, Dustin Scherzinger OH; Matthew Perry of OH; great children Deanna Hill of WV, Chelsea Hill of WV, Jessie Hill of WV, Daniel O’Leary of MA, Cullen O’Leary of MA, Braiden Arsenault of MA, Jarred Arsenault of MA, Stephanie Ashley Garcia Hanah O’Leary, Maeghan Arsenault, Timothy O’Leary, Great-Great Grandchild; Riley O’Leary of MA. She was the sister of the late Alfred Amancio, the mother late Steven A. Garcia and the grandmother of the late Scott Mallinson . In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452 or the family requests that a tree be planted in her memory.

Her visitation will be held 4-8pm at the Waring Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington Street, Fairhaven with a memorial service at 7:30pm.
