Dorothy “Dot” Jean Thomas Gibbs, 84, of Busick, Went to be with the Lord, Thursday Feb. 21, 2019 after an extended illness. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of of the late George and Marie Riddle Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dail Gibbs who died in 2006, a sister Brenda McCurry and a brother Howard Thomas. Dot served as a Cub Scout den Mother, was the Owner/Operator of Norgetown Laundry from 1972 until 1984. She sold Home Interior and Avon for a number of years.

She was involved with the Gideons Auxillary, and a member of the Red Hats. Dot was an active member of South Estatoe Baptist Church. Along with being a homemaker she enjoyed making Poplar Barkberry baskets.

and numerous other crafts. Surviving are two sons: Roger Ray and fiancee Marilyn Oakley of Burnsville and Danny Ray and wife Pam of Morganton. A daughter, Terri Ray Cloninger and husband Mike of Dallas, NC.

Grandchildren, Thomas Cloninger, Tabetha Cloninger and Victoria Ray. Sisters: Adaleen Briggs and Liz Banks of Burnsville. A brother Ken Thomas of Hudson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday February 23, 2019 in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers. The Rev. David Brown will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Carroway Cemetery. The family will recieve friends from 12:30 until 2 PM at the funeral home.
