“This world is not my home, I’m just a’ passin’ through. My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue. The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore”.

So on May 13, 2019 our beautiful Mother flew away into the arms of Jesus and her beloved Ross. Dorothy Jean Varney was born on July 1, 1928 in Charlotte, Michigan, the second daughter of George and Clara Varney. She was raised in Woodland and graduated from Woodland high school in 1946.

On her parents 24th wedding anniversary, October 18, 1948, she married her high school sweetheart J. “Ross” Krebs in a joint ceremony with her sister Virginia. “Dort” and Ross established their home on the Krebs family farm in rural Lake Odessa where they worked for many years, growing their family and building a legacy. Mom planted and harvested, milked and fed animals, built and painted, canned and sewed and at various times worked outside the home.

And she baked cookies. She build a legacy of service and care for others through her many years as the Treasurer of the Woodbury United Brethren church and the care she provided to others (including Dad) in the later years of their lives with grace and creativity. And she baked cookies.

Mom and her sisters became well known for the barn sale held every summer weekend in the Krebs barn for many years and for those homemade cookies. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister, Georgia Campbell as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law. She is survived by her 2 sisters, Virginia Decker and Mary Norris; her 3 children: Sue (Joe) Graybill, Gary (Dona) Krebs and Sandra (Gari) Weingart; 5 grand children: Nathan (Teresa) Graybill, Patience (Sam) Graybill Condellone, Micah (Jill) Graybill, Winter (Dustin) Krebs Dewey, Hayden Krebs; and 10 great-grand children: Caleb, Haven, Eden, Zion, Anna, Jessa, Joey, and Isaac Graybill and Rosaleigh and Avery Dewey, and many nieces and nephews.
