Dorothy Maxine Lickey, 90, of Newton died on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Skiff Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 4, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service with a lunch at the church.

Memorials to Dorothy’s family may be left at the church or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Dorothy, the daughter of Estes and Sadie Meyer, was born on February 5, 1928 in rural Jasper County. She graduated from Newton High School in 1947.

Dorothy worked at Stockton’s Grocery, JC Penney’s and Winpower. On September 25, 1953, Dorothy was united in marriage with Leo Lickey at the Wittemberg Church in Newton. They made their home in Newton and Dorothy became a homemaker and bookkeeper for Lickey’s Garage.

Dorothy was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Genealogical Library, Skiff Auxiliary Volunteer, and attended Cowboy Church. She enjoyed gardening and feeding the raccoons, squirrels, and rabbits around their home. Dorothy is survived by her daughter-in-law, Cindy Lickey of Newton; three grandchildren, Brad (Sarah) Lickey of Coralville, Kari Lickey of Boulder, Colorado, and Chris Conklin of Newton; and her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo Lickey; son, Roger Lickey; and a daughter, Sherry Lickey Daubert.
