Richard “Dick” Marvin Reed, Sr., 73, of Colfax, died on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A celebration of Richard’s life will be held from 12-3 p.m., Sunday, July 15, at the Colfax Country Club. Memorials to the Colfax Fire and Ambulance or the Jasper County Animal Rescue League may be left at the celebration or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.

Dick, the son of Leland and Dorothy (Klein) Reed, was born on February 23, 1945 in Knoxville. He grew up in Bussey and rural Newton before moving to Colfax. Dick was a graduate of Colfax High School in 1963.

Dick was united in marriage with Pamela Pfander on June 20, 1965 in Newton. He worked for 28 years at the Maytag Company in Newton, retiring in 1992. Dick was active in his community serving as the former Mayor of Colfax, on the Planning and Zoning Committee in the 1970’s, and as a member Colfax Police Auxiliary Reserve.

He played for the Newton A’s baseball team, played softball for many years, and coached and umpired both baseball and softball. Dick was an avid bowler at Triangle Lanes and had golfed for many years. He also loved going to Canada fishing and enjoyed camping at Howell Station at Lake Red Rock the past several years.

Dick is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pamela Reed of Colfax; children, Rich (Lynn) Reed of Colfax, Amy Reed of Pleasant Hill, and Lisa (Robert) Manley of Hedrick; grandchildren, Kristopher (Andrea) Curtis of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Shannon Lewis of Johnston, Sean Lewis of Johnston, Ryan Reed of Colfax, Drew (Kaylee) Reed of Altoona, Morgan (Beau) Davidson of Colfax, Taylea Manley of Hedrick, and Mackenzie Manley of Hedrick; his great-grandchildren, Kelton Curtis, Vesley Dunblaizer-Reed, Atom Reed, and Baby Girl “A” Reed due in September of 2018; his siblings, Harry (Cheryl) Reed of Ellenton, Florida, Tom Reed of Newton, and Donna McCorkle of Knoxville; many nieces and nephews; and his fur babies, Peanut, Tripod, and Neko. He was preceded in death by his parents and maternal and paternal grandparents.
