Obituary for Dorothy M. Maynes GRAFTON/MILLBURY: Dorothy M. (Hargraves) Maynes, 97, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from complications from hip surgery that resulted in severe pneumonia. Her husband Malcolm Maynes passed away in 2003. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Karen Davis, who lived with and took care of her and her son, Barry Maynes, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

She also leaves her grandchildren Angela Zimage, of Worcester and Richard Davis and his wife Melissa Davis, of South Grafton, and great-grandchildren Malcolm, Britni, Alysia, Olivia, Najia, Richard Jr., Nathan, and William. Her sister Mildred Allen predeceased her in 2013. Dorothy was born January 11, 1921 in Worcester daughter of the late Elwilda (Stearns) and Arthur Hargraves.

Her roots were in North Grafton where she grew up and lived most of her life until marrying and moving to Millbury. Dorothy was a devoted member of the Baptist Church of Grafton, serving as its Organist, Sunday School Teacher, Music Director and on its Bereavement Committee. She also was a Woman Auxillary member of the American Legion Post in Grafton.

For many years she and her husband Malcom took memorable trips to Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, different islands in the Caribbean, and spent time in Dennisport, Cape Cod. While she stayed at home for many years with her children she also worked at and retired from State Mutual Insurance. Away from work Dorothy loved quiet time with a favorite book.

She loved her children and grandchildren actively supporting and encouraging them in their endeavors where ever they went in life. Her friends and family knew her to be full of fun and life, enjoying getting together with them to play games, swim, or just converse. She was a classy dresser in the latest styles, always a lady who was poised and refined.

Those of us who knew her will miss her tremendously. Please honor Dorothy with a donation to Shriner’s Childrens Hospital or to the Music Fund at the Baptist Church of Grafton, 1 South St. Grafton, MA 01519. All are welcome to gather with Dorothy’s family, Saturday, May 5th for calling hours from 9-10:30am at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., N.
