Dorothy M. Shafer, age 81, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the Washington County Hospital. General calling hours will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 from noon until 5:00 p.m. at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Interment will be private.

Dorothy was born March 7, 1937 in Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Edna (Wilson) Schantz. She was united in marriage to George Marion Shafer in Washington, Iowa. They later divorced.

Dorothy farmed her entire life and was a very hard worker. She enjoyed woodworking, quilting and sewing. She is survived by her daughter, Sissy Shafer; grandson, Samuel Shafer; granddaughter, Grace Shafer; and great-granddaughter, Oakley Shafer, all of Washington, IA; two sisters: Marjorie Koehler of Keota, IA and Patty Jean Pepper of Mexico, MO; and her beloved dog Mylee.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Georgia “Babe” Shafer; brothers, Samuel and Wayne Schantz; brother-in-law, Bill Pepper; and nephew: Jim Koehler. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Dorothy Shafer please visit our Sympathy Store.
