Doyle Thomas Greeson August 06, 1935 – March 02, 2019 Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Doyle Thomas Greeson went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 2, 2019. He was born on August 6, 1935 in Austin, Texas to Thomas Marvin Greeson and Clara Jane Gilbert Greeson. He was raised close to extended family and had a great relationship with many cousins, aunts, and uncles.

He grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1953. Doyle is survived by Retha, his wife of 63 years, and his three sons, David Greeson (Gayla), Stephen Greeson (Ginger), and Kevin Greeson (Holley); his grandchildren, Timothy Greeson (Jessica), Samantha Greeson, Dennis Greeson (Audrey), Bethany Greeson Ramsey (Elijah), Tyler James Greeson (Abby), and Caitlin Greeson. He has four great grandchildren: Eliza and Liam Greeson, Evelyn Greeson, Leo Ramsey, and one more arriving in a few weeks.

He is also survived by his sister, Mary Nell Kinkead (Dick), and many nieces, nephews, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Doris Benter. Shortly after his marriage to his high school sweetheart, Retha Joycelene Green on July 2, 1955, they moved to the Corpus Christi area to take a job as a purchasing agent at Reynolds Metals where he worked for 45 years.

Shortly after the move they settled in Portland, Texas where they lived for 60 years. He was active in the community and served 9 years in the National Guard. However, his greatest passion was serving and worshiping at First Baptist Church of Portland where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and chairman of numerous committees.

In 2016 they moved to Richmond, Texas to be closer to their three sons. His love for the Lord and for his family set an example for all. Doyle had a great love for baseball.

He played shortstop on the Austin High School varsity team and the Austin Buddies, an American Legion team that played in the national championship tournament in 1952. He was named all-American shortstop. He later played second base for the freshman team at the University of Texas.

His favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Missions Fund. Visitation is set for Tuesday, March 5th at 9:00 a.m., with funeral service immediately following at 10:00 a.m. Both the visitation and the service will be at Calvary Baptist Church, 4111 Airport Ave.
