Dr. Athi Narayan, an immigrant, a doctor, a father, and an American, passed away on December 6, 2018. He was among the first neonatal specialists in the U.S. and spent a career saving the lives of critically ill babies and providing comfort to mothers from all walks of life. A clever and ambitious man, he served as medical director at neonatal departments and as a president of the American Tamil Medical Foundation.

There, he helped create the Pallavaram Children’s Medical Center for underserved children in Chennai, India. He was a teacher and mentor to nurses, physician assistants, medical residents and students. He married Shanthi Rajagopal in 1971 and was a devoted husband for 42 years.

She predeceased him in 2014. An avid athlete and soccer player, he was kayaking, hiking, and running 5ks into his 70’s. His two adult sons share his zest for living and will be honored to receive friends, family and others whose lives were touched by his restless spirit.

Services will be held Saturday December 15, 2018 at Bill Head Funeral Home, Duluth Chapel, 3088 Highway 120, Duluth, GA 30096. A viewing will begin at 9:00 am, with ceremony beginning at 10:00 am.
