OBITUARY Dr. Carlos Xavier Domino June 21, 1944 – January 24, 2019 Play Tribute Movie Carlos Xavier Domino, 74, of Houston, Texas, entered into rest on January 24, 2019. He was born in Harlingen, Texas on June 21, 1944 to Alicia Diana Vela and Freddie Rodriguez and was raised in Raymondville, Texas. Following his graduation from Raymondville High School, he was drafted to the Army and stationed at Fort Polk.
Carlos served for 8 years as a Major, including one tour in Vietnam before a medical discharge due to an injury sustained in action in 1968. Later he served as a Lt. Colonel in the Texas State Guard until his retirement in 2017.
Carlos attended Pan-Am until to his transfer to University of Houston to continue his studies in sports medicine. Armed with his degree, he attended Texas Chiropractic College to pursue his lifelong dream of establishing his first chiropractic clinic. An avid runner and bodybuilder, he was heavily involved in various community activities and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner.
He also served on the board of the Texas Chiropractic Association and was well respected within the sports medicine community. His passion for life and adventure led him around the world as a member of the Houston Hash House Harriers and was only rivaled by the passion and zest he found in competitive ballroom dancing. A member of the American Ballroom Association, his talent garnered him numerous accolades and upon his retirement he transitioned into the role of judging and instructor.
Never one to stay idle, retirement found him more active than before as he became an animal rescue advocate with his work with CAP, the Humane Society, and the ASPCA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alicia and Freddie. He is survived by his son, Marcos Caesar Domino and wife Elizabeth; his beloved family, David Patrick Portillo and wife, Claudia and their daughters, Lauren and Millie; his brothers, Mario Hector Domino; Jaime Alfonso Rodriguez and wife Adela; his sister, Donna Clarissa Cavazos, and husband Ezequiel; his grandchildren, Anthony Ryan, Hayden Ian, Charlotte Nicole, and Maxwell Lewis as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
A visitation will be held in his honor on Sunday, February 3, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. inside the Chapel of American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. The Celebration of Life service will commence on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. inside the Chapel of American Heritage Funeral Home, after which he will be escorted to the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038, where he will be laid to rest with honors. Following the committal service, the family would like to invite all of Carlos’ friends and loved ones back to American Heritage Funeral Home for a catered reception which will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. inside the Magnolia Room.
