Obituary for Dr. LaVonna Powell Rose Dr. LaVonna Powell Rose of Calera, OK passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in Plano, TX at the age of 82. She was born on March 28, 1936 in Charleston, Illinois to Claude Piacentine and Thelma Archer. LaVonna was a highly successful woman, holding many positions, receiving many degrees, and honors.

She attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL, where she met her husband William Ingram Powell, he preceded her in death in 1992. LaVonna graduated from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL with a Bachelors of Science in Education, and also received a Masters in Education at EIU. Her education continued and she went on to receive a Doctorate of Christian Counseling, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Bethany Theological Seminary in Dothon, AL.

She earned a second Masters of Human Relations degree from the University of Oklahoma. From 1967 to 1993, she was worked as an elementary teacher. Beginning in 1992 she was employed at the Christian Counselor for the First Church of God in Lancaster, PA from 1992 – 1998.

Dr. LaVonna was a Mental Health Counselor at Mid Del Youth and Family Center along with several other counseling agencies in the Midwest City area. She then continued her counseling career in Durant, OK with such agencies as, Oklahoma Families First, Lifespan Counseling Professionals, Southern Oklahoma Treatment Services, Providence of Oklahoma, Pathways of Oklahoma, and Youth Care of Oklahoma. LaVonna received a crowning achievement award for public service during the Oklahoma City Bombing from The U.S. Department of Justice.

She spent many years as a Preacher’s wife and married Rev. Lyle Rose in 1996, serving as the church’s organist and pianist. She worked until February 2018 and enjoyed taking care of her family.

Mrs. Powell loved her counseling profession and was a nature lover, devoted to her family that was only second to her devotion and service to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Rev. William Ingram Powell.

Survivors include her husband, Lyle Rose; daughter, Halana Powell; step- daughter, Jacquelin Frook and husband Kevin of Port Charlotte, FL; brother, John G. Piacentine of Charleston, IL; granddaughter, Nikola Cone and boyfriend John G. Harris of Charleston, IL; two great- grandsons, Cody Rogers and Hunter Rogers; great- granddaughter, Arianna Marie Davis along with many extended family members and dear friends. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel in Durant with Pat Blagg officiating. Cremation services are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
