William (Billy) Jesse Bickers, M.D. passed away June 5, 2018 of cancer. He was born on July 24, 1935 in Baton Rouge. Billy grew up in Ripley, TN.

enjoying fishing, hunting, andsharing life with parents Jesse Hedgepeth and Lucy Bell Bickers and sister Martha. From an early age, Billy felt God’s love and was called to minister and medicine. He graduated from Union Univ.

, married Annette Clark, enrolled in U.T. Medical School, and finished as an Internal Medicine Specialist. He served as an Air Force flight surgeon. With hearts to serve others, Billy and Annette were missionaries in Central and South America.

Returning to Memphis with health concerns, they welcomed their fourth son. Billy practiced and taught for 30 years at the V.A. Hospital and U.T. His unbridled curiosity and many interests included building two lake cabins, volunteering for Team Read, Friendship Force and fellowship of the Romeos. He was a voracious reader, studying religion and science.

Over the years, he served as an elder, deacon and pastor as he believed in the brotherhood of mankind and worked to bring love, respect and understanding in interfaith activities. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and loved to share his commitment to preventive medicine through diet and exercise. Cherishing his memory are his beloved wife, Annette; sons, William Clark (Margaret); David Andrew (Michelle); Allen Underwood (Cindy) and Curtis Lowell; thirteen grandchildren , four great grands and sister, Martha Bowden.
