Duane L. Zimmerman, 71, Mandan, died June 11, 2018, at Knife River Care Center, Beulah ND. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 18, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Leanne Simmons officiating.

Burial will take place at 2:00 PM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held at from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Duane Zimmerman was born on July 4, 1946, to Ted and Esther (Schutz) Zimmerman. He was raised and educated in Carson, ND. Duane was baptized and confirmed in Carson, ND.

He later attended First Presbyterian Church in Bismarck, ND. He worked on the family farm until 1965. Duane served in the United States Navy, spending most of his time in Africa, beginning in 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1967.

In 1977, Duane married Carol (Kilen) Zimmerman in Almont, ND. They held each other’s hand for 41 years. Duane worked for BNSF railroad for 18 years.

Duane loved working with his hands; specifically, with carpentry work. He spent many hours in his garage building wishing wells, planters, and various other items. He also enjoyed cooking, gardening, hunting, visiting with family and friends, and listening to music.

Duane will be deeply missed! Blessed to have shared his life are his wife, Carol Zimmerman, Mandan; sons, Paul (Danny Jo) Zimmerman and Jerry (Georgia) Zimmerman; grandchildren, Preston and Paizley Zimmerman; brothers, LeRoy (DiAnn) Zimmerman, Clinton (Trish) Zimmerman, and Larry (Jean) Zimmerman; sisters, Nancy (Bill) Cook, and Teena (Terry) Oestreich; sisters-in-law Arlene (Eddie) Becknell, and Ethel (Doug) Heald; brother-in-law, Dwight (Colleen) Kilen; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Esther Zimmerman; grandparents; parents-in-law, Norman and Helen Kilen; sister-in-law, Norma Esser; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
