Obituary for Dwan Luree “Dee” Carter Dwan Luree “Dee” Carter, 88, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018. Formerly of Des Moines, IA, she had been a resident of Bonita Springs since 2001. She was born September 19, 1930 in Mapleton, IA, the daughter of Alwyn Austin and Masel Marguerite (née Brown) Martin.
Dee grew up in Mapleton, IA, surrounded by three sisters, two brothers and loving parents. She met the love of her life, Don Carter, at age 14. They married in 1949 and had two daughters.
Dee stayed home to raise their children, and then went to work at the Iowa State Senate. Dee loved politics and being involved in advance security for presidential visits to Iowa. Dee was an active and giving volunteer.
She was President of Jaycee Ettes, President of the Iowa Home for the Sightless, was active in PEO in Iowa and Florida and was President of her Iowa Chapter. Dee was a Deacon and an Elder at First Presbyterian Church as well as serving on several committees. Dee enjoyed traveling around the globe with her family.
Dee loved her family, friends and faith. Mrs. Carter is survived by her loving daughters, Sandy (Tom) Davis of Wayzata, MN and Marci (Mark) Klinkefus of West Union, IA; her sisters and brother, Kay (the late Joseph) Drew of Cedar Falls, IA, Mimi (the late Robert) Meinhardt of Napa, CA and Lynn (the late Noreen) Martin and his companion, Jo of Leabrook, South Australia; sister-in-law, Dorothy Martin; brother-in-law, Gary Carter; three cherished grandchildren, Carey (Nick) Sash, Jennifer (Nick) Newman and Lindsay (Alex) Kenyon; and three treasured great grandchildren, Matthew, Makayla and Max; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Francis Carter in 2005; her brother, Jerry in 2004; and sister, Cheryl in 2018.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the 2nd floor Skilled Nursing staff at the Renaissance for the loving care they gave Dee. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, 9751 Bonita Beach Rd.
