Obituary for James P. Seymour Sr. James P. Seymour, Sr. died September 13, 2018 peacefully at home after a long illness. He leaves his loving wife and best friend of 55 years, Joann (Napierkowski) Seymour; his sons James P. Seymour, Jr. and wife Kristen of Yarmouth, Massachusetts; Francis R. Seymour and wife Janice of Canton, Massachusetts; and daughter Laura A. Gillet and husband John of Pearland, Texas: grandchildren Jacqueline, Emily, Andrew, Jack and Abigail; brother Msgr. Francis R. Seymour, Kearny, New Jersey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Born and raised in Bayonne, New Jersey, Jim was the son of the late George and Mary (Boyle) Seymour and predeceased by his brothers Connie of Pensacola, Florida; Jack of Bayonne, New Jersey; George of Kearney, New Jersey. He attended St Mary Star of The Sea Grammar School in Bayonne, St Peter’s High School in Staten Island, New York and graduated from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, New Jersey earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business concentrated in Marketing in 1960. Jim was a US Army Veteran serving his country with honor and distinction.
Jim and Joann raised their family in Quincy, Massachusetts. Later in life they also shared a weekend home in Mashpee, on Cape Cod Massachusetts before becoming fulltime Florida residents. Jim retired as “Senior Salesman” after 45 years with Benjamin Moore Paint Co. his first and only job following graduation from high school.
After retiring from Benjamin Moore, he worked part time at Hubbard Paint Co. until he determined what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. He found golf, a sport he refused to play until after he fully retired. As a member of the Highland Woods Golf & Country Club, he found a great community of new friends, new places and even had a celebrated hole in one.
He also discovered the 19th hole. Prior to Jim’s illness, he and Joann were avid worldwide travelers returning many times to his beloved country of ancestry – Ireland visiting extended family. His counsel was sought by many, he was known as the “Mayor of Mashpee” and like it or not he gave you his opinion.
He famous quotes “Ice Cream for Lunch” and “Profit is not a Dirty Word”. Jim was a lifelong Member of the Knights of Columbus as a well as a member of the HWGCC – Men’s Golf Association. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail South, Bonita Springs, Florida Visiting Hours Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 5 to 7 PM.
Friday, September 21 at 9:30 AM – Mass of Christian Burial at St. Leo the Great RC Church, 28300 Beaumont Road, Bonita Springs, FL 34134. Burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne Massachusetts at a later date in October.
