Earl Eugene Butler, Jr. (Jack) passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Carmel Hill Nursing Home in Independence, Missouri. He was born on September 24, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri to Earl E. Butler, Sr. and Willie Mae Butler. He was one of eight children.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Patricia Butler and Ophelia Walker, God-parents, Donald and Pauline Carter, and God-brother, Paul Carter. He united with Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized by Reverend O.S. Jones at an early age.

Jack was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri school system, graduating from Central High School in 1968. Thereafter, he served in the U.S. Navy and worked a number of jobs, but was most proud of the time spent working as a dental technician in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Jack is survived by three children: Earl Butler III (Rasean) of San Jose, California, Kellye Butler Richardson (Royal) of Kansas City, Missouri, Tangina Staley of Kansas City, Missouri; one granddaughter: Tah’lia of Kansas City, Missouri; three sisters: Brenda Butler Ashby of Kansas City, Missouri, Janice Butler Workcuff (William) of Houston, Texas, Jacqueline Butler Mondaine of Houston, Texas; two brothers: Verdie Craig (Martha) of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Henry Eugene Island (Gloria) of Taft, Oklahoma; two God-brothers: Donald Carter, Jr. (Nancy) of Phoenix, Arizona and Kenneth Carter, Sr. of St. Louis, Missouri, and a God-sister Coretta Carter Muhammad (James) of Kansas City, Kansas.

Jack leaves longtime friends: Mitchell Martin, Brian Ogletree, and Kenneth Powell, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins, and a host of friends. He loved being surrounded by friends on 34th and College Avenue where he could be found relaxing on the front porch, greeting and reminiscing with neighbors. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Lawrence A. Jones & Son’ s Linwood Chapel 1800 E. Linwood KCMO.
