Beloved as a sweet and caring man until the very day of his passing, Earl dutifully dedicated his life to loving and providing for his family, friends, and charitable passions. He was preceded in death by his sister Grace (Alan) Floyd.
Earl is survived by his adoring wife of 58 years, Mary Lillydahl, and his three children Lisa (Mark) Pietrowiak, Sarah (Vik) Gottlieb, and Doug (Rita) Lillydahl. Earl is further survived by eight grandchildren: Jack Neel, Sarah (Andrew) Long, Joey Pietrowiak, Viktor (Lauren) Gottlieb, Matt Gottlieb, Genevieve Gottlieb, Anna Lillydahl, Alice Lillydahl, and one great-grandchild Olivia Long. Earl navigated his life with integrity, humor, and generosity which led so many to turn to him for advice, aid, and understanding.
As such a caretaker, Earl would calmly design a plan that would leave a friend in an undoubtedly better position. Earl’s early years included a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a law degree from University of Wisconsin before he spent two years serving his country in the US Navy on the USS Merrimack. Earl’s career centered on real estate as an officer at Mortgage Associates, Inc., First Wisconsin Entities, the Lillydahl Corporation, and BVT Properties, Inc
He further served as a board member for The Salvation Army, the Park People of Milwaukee County, and was board president for St John’s Home, a supportive community where he gratefully spent his final years. Throughout their marriage, Earl and Mary shared a love for traveling, dancing, and gardening. A true lover of the outdoors from childhood, especially fly fishing, he spent countless hours on streams throughout Wisconsin and the world enthusiastically pursuing this passion with fortunate companions.
A service honoring Earl’s life will be held on Saturday, January 12th at 11:00AM at Christ Church Episcopal, 5655 N. Lake Drive, in Whitefish Bay. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Earl’s name may be made to support Parkinson’s Disease research via the Michael J Fox Foundation, PO Box 5014, Haggerstown MD 21741-5014, The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County at 11315 W. Watertown Plank Rd.
