Eddie “Ed” Russell Sevars September 12, 1927 – January 30, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Ed Sevars; a lifelong resident of Spurger, Beaumont, and Comfort Texas; passed away on January 30, 2019 in the Las Colinas of Westover Hills nursing home in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Silsbee Texas on September 12, 1927 to Ellison and Jane Elizabeth Sevars. Ed was raised in Spurger Texas and attended school in Silsbee Texas.

Being raised in a rural area, he was used to the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and camping throughout the Texas Hill Country. He also became very independent and developed a skill for driving and/or repairing all types of vehicles and farm equipment. He entered military service toward the end of WW II and separated from the US Army in May 1947 at Ft Benning GA as a heavy equipment mechanic.

He was awarded the Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal for his military service. Ed married Jane Evelyn Parks on August 5, 1949 and they raised 5 children. Ed he was a loving husband and father and took care of his wife until she passed away in 2005 after 56 years of marriage.

Ed worked as oil rig operator and then as a field drill supervisor for 25 years at Texas Gulf until1976. He also operated his own water-well business in Buna TX for 4 years, and then started working overseas for the Koehring Equipment Company as a heavy equipment operator and field superintendent in Mexico, Algeria, and Spain. He later worked as a long-haul truck driver where he travelled all over the USA.

Ed retired to Comfort TX in 1991 where he used his handy-man skills to help friends and neighbors with repairs they may need with their homes, equipment, and vehicles. Ed loved the Lord and attended the Comfort Baptist Church for over 20 years. He later married Barbara Howard in 2010 and they remained in Comfort Texas until he entered a San Antonio nursing home in 2017.

Ed was preceded in death by 3 children and is survived by 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Ed will be remembered as a loving man; tall in height with a big heart, large hands, and broad smile. Ed will be laid to rest beside his wife Evelyn in Port Neches Texas.

A memorial service for Ed Sevars will be held at Comfort Baptist Church on February 12, 2019 at 1:00 pm.
