Obituary for Edith Reynolds Vance Edith Mae (Reynolds) Vance died at her daughter Susie’s home in Lafayette, Louisiana on March 26, 2018 at age 91. The daughter of Jake and Leota Reynolds, Mama was born on their farm east of Morris, Oklahoma on August 5, 1926 , the of six children. She grew up in Morris and graduated from Morris High School, class of 1944.
She met Howard Vance there in elementary school. They were married on June 15, 1947. They spent most of their married life in Lafayette where mama was very active in the First Christian Church of Lafayette, Church Women United, and Mary Kay.
A few years after daddy died in 1984, Mama returned to Morris where she spent the remainder of her life. Known as Edith, Mama, Granny and Aunt Makie, among those left to remember and honor her, are two of her three children, her son Steve Vance (Las Vegas, NV) and her daughter Susan Lovell (Larry) (Lafayette, LA). Our deepest gratitude to Susie and her husband Larry for their sacrifice and loving kindness in caring for Mama in her last days.
She is survived by four of her five grandchildren, Jake Vance, Noah Vance, Chelsie Lovell Doucet and Kylie Lovell. She was blessed with seven great grandchildren Ashley, Tristan, Bryce, Megan, Noah, Vance, and Reid. She is also survived by her sisters Stella Davis (Charles), June Parker (Charlie) and her brother David Reynolds (Mary Jane), the best of men.
She was aunt to twenty-three nieces and nephews and great and great-great aunt to many more who knew her. Mama will rest next to Daddy and her parents. On this same day we will bury her son Doug nearby.
Doug, our brother and Noah’s father, died on December 31, 2017. Among those also near are her, brother Bud Reynolds, sister Maxine Biby (d. 2017) and Steve’s wife Linda (d.
2015). Joining her in time will be her granddaughter Carrie Vance Osorio (Las Vegas) who died October 12, 2016. Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Church, 511 S. Third Street, Morris, Oklahoma at 10:30 A.M. on the morning of Saturday April 7, 2018, conducted by Pastor Tim Craighton.
The burial will follow at the Morris Cemetery. Family and friends will join for a period of visitation at 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. on Friday April 6, 2018 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Morris, 421 South Hughes. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Morris.
