Edna Newman was born on July 9, 1947 to Eddie & Essie Johnson. Edna attended school in Kansas City, Missouri, graduating from Central High School in 1965. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member at Kingdom Harvest International Fellowship.

She was known as Mother Newman. Edna enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. There wasn’t a basketball or track meet that she didn’t miss.

She loved playing Bid Wiz and Spades with her family. Edna enjoyed life and loved her family dearly. Edna was united in marriage in 1970 to Michael F. Newman.

When tragedy struck, Edna and Michael opened their home to their nieces and nephews (Lolita Richard, Pam Richard, Timothy Richard, Larry Richard, and JoAnn Richard-Madison) that they raised as their own. Michael preceded her in death in May 2006. Edna Newman closed the doors to this life on Sunday, January 13, 2019 and entered into God’s heavenly kingdom.

Edna was preceded in death by Eddie & Essie Johnson and her beloved sister Mona Hicks. She is survived by her sister Irena Lloyd, brother-in-law Paul Newman (Agnes), Aunt Erma Jean Hatten, and Uncle R.K. Johnson; Her daughter Delita Newman; stepsons Michael Newman, Paul Newman, and Tony Terrell; Grandchildren Demetrius Guinn, De’Sean Guinn, Krystle Shelton, Eric Richard, Anthony Hinton, and a host of other grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Watkins Heritage Chapel.

Visitation 9:00 A.M. Interment Chapel Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens.
