Eduardo’s Obituary Eduardo Salinas, Jr., Lifelong Crystal City Resident and WWII Veteran (December 26, 1918 – March 3, 2019) Eduardo “Ed” Stephen Salinas, Jr., lifelong resident of Crystal City and WWII veteran passed away March 3, 2019, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by his family. Salinas was proud to have recently reached his milestone birthday of 100 years and celebrated the achievement with family and friends. He was born on a ranch on December 26, 1918 in La Presa, Texas, to Eduardo Francisco Salinas and Consuelo Garcia Salinas.

Educated at the Holding Institute in Laredo, Texas, Salinas attended Crystal City High School. A corporal in the Army, Salinas was drafted in 1944 during WWII, and was stationed in the Philippines and served as a truck mechanic until the end of the war in 1945. Salinas retired from the Del Monte plant in 1994 after working there for 20 years, first as a night watchman, then as a receiving clerk.

He was a ranch manager for the Bowman Ranch in Carrizo Springs, Texas, and worked at Jacob Farms and Ranches in Uvalde, Texas and in Virginia. His greatest accomplishment was his family, which he loved with all his heart, and he took great pride in being the patriarch of the Salinas family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Juanita N. Salinas; son, Eusevio N. Salinas; and beloved companion Blanca Gamez.

He is survived by children Ralph E. Salinas (Rosario), Maria S. Hernandez, Alicia S. Flores, and sister Maria Bertha Salinas. Grandchildren Gloria S. Sanchez (Jose E.), Eusevio E. Salinas, Jr. (Imelda), Marcy Hernandez Vidal (Samuel), Tommy C. Salinas, Ralph E. Salinas, Jr. (Cynthia), Margo H. Isbell (John Allen), Raymond S. Flores, Edward C. Salinas (Romelia), Raquel S. Guerrero (George), Martha Hernandez, Mark S. Flores; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A visitation for Salinas will be held Friday, March 8, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Castle Ridge Mortuary in Crystal City, Texas.

Funeral mass will be on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crystal City. Interment at Benito Juarez Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and to honor Ed Salinas, donations can be made to the National World War II Museum.
