Obituary for Mr. Edward C. Jefferson Edward Charles Jefferson peacefully returned home on November 21, 2018 in the comfort of his home in Neptune NJ at the age of 83. Edward was born and raised in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Charlie Jefferson and Jannett Patillo Jefferson. Edward attended the Philadelphia public school district where he graduated from Simon Gratz High School, class of 1954.
After completing high school, Edward continued his education at HBCU Cheyney State Teachers College of Pennsylvania. He graduated in 1958 with his Bachelor of Science in Education. Following college, he then relocated to Asbury Park/Neptune, New Jersey after accepting a teacher position for an Industrial Arts Program in the Asbury Park Public School District.
Continuing his faith in Christ, instilled in him as a young boy, Edward joined the Second Baptist Church of Asbury Park which he was a faithful tried and true member until his passing. In 1977, he was initiated as a member of the Asbury Park/Neptune Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. In the 1970s, Edward started a painting and handyman business, Jeff and Co., where he completed handywork for local home owners and friends.
Edward became a pillar and guiding light for the Asbury Park student body as he hired and trained his current or former students and gave them job opportunities. During the 80s, Edward volunteered to hold evening woodshop classes at the Asbury Park Boys and Girls Club. In 1998, after a 40 year long laborious teaching career, male role model, father figure, and friend, Edward retired from the Asbury Park school district.
In doing so, he earned the respect of his colleagues, promoted excellence in achievement amongst students, and shaped the development of thousands of children. After retirement, Edward continued to work and operate his home improvement business until 2015. Edward was a dedicated father and family always came first.
He married once to Sylvia Thomas [divorced] and leaves behind three sons Zion El formally Edward Jefferson, Carl Driver, Dwayne Anthony, predeceased one daughter Sylvanni Driver, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two nieces, two nephews [one deceased] and a host of cousins, family, and friends.
