Obituary for Mr. John Edward Glassen John, (Jack), Glassen, 76 of Neptune City, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 25, at JSUMC surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Newark, NJ and spent his childhood in Union. The last 35 years he lived in Neptune City.
He worked at Howard Tool, Newark; Seabrite Stainless, Neptune City; Standard Keil, Wall Township; and more recently Motion Systems, Eatontown, where he was a tool and die maker. Jack had been an avid fisherman who had a passion for fishing especially with his family and friends. He especially liked fluking.
As he often said, a $10 fishing rod can catch a fluke just as easily as a $100 fishing rod. Jack and his youngest son proved that time and time again much to the chagrin of his oldest son. When Jack had his boat, Split Decision, every weekend he would go out with his wife and sons fishing.
It was his favorite thing to do. Even though his daughter got seasick and could not enjoy the boat, no matter how old she was, she was always Daddy’s little girl. Jack enjoyed playing the lottery, doing scratch-offs, going to AC, and his beloved NY JETS-but he enjoyed traveling the most.
Jack and his wife have been to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe several times and the Caribbean. They also loved cruising and had been on several cruises over the years. In the last few years Jack had a new found interest in Broadway shows and had seen several especially liking Kinky Boots and Wicked.
But what Jack enjoyed most was spending time with his family and dog. He loved when they would all get together and hang out. Jack was known for his sense of humor and infectious laugh.
Since his passing, many friends and acquaintances have said what a good man he was and how much he loved his family. His wife and he were not only husband and wife but the best of friends. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Betty, his brothers, Joe and George, his sister-in-law, Doris and his brother from another mother, Michael Lavin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Donna (Vanola), his children, Cindy and Jack Jr., Toms River, Len and his wife Amy, Forked River, his sisters-in-law, Eileen Glassen, Moutainside and Diana Deshefy and her husband Jack, Marlboro, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog and constant companion, Asti.
