Edward Charles Budrus passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Peabody Manor in Appleton, WI at the age of 93. Edward was born on April 24, 1925 in Lublin, Wisconsin to Mary (Grajek) and Joseph Budrus. He attended grade school in Lublin where he first met his future wife, Wanda Tytor.
Edward entered the army during WWII and was assigned to “I” Company, 3rd Battalion, 395th Infantry Regiment, 99th Infantry Division as a rifleman. He served in the infantry in the European theater beginning with the Battle of the Bulge and continued on through the Rhineland and central Europe campaigns. Ed participated in the capture of the Ludendorff Bridge over the Rhine River at Remagen.
He also participated in the liberation of both a Concentration camp and of a Prisoner of War camp that detained American soldiers and airmen. He was extremely proud to have served under General George Patton. His service medals include a Bronze Star Unit Citation, the Combat Infantry Badge, Rhineland Campaign Ribbon, Central Europe Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European Theater Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal.
Upon return to Lublin after discharge from the Army he worked with his father in the grain elevator, eventually building the new “Budrus Elevator” and his home where he and Wanda raised their four children. Ed was active in Lublin government, serving as Mayor, Fire Chief of the volunteer fire department, and was a life member of Legion Post 547 for over 60 years. Ed spent many hours leading the Legion’s Chicken Barbecue team and perfecting his ‘secret barbecue marinade.
’ Ed enjoyed Lublin baseball, hunting, fishing, gardening and picking wild mushrooms. Ed sponsored the Budrus Elevator softball team and was an avid Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan. Ed is survived by his son, Wayne (Jeanie) of Huntington, WV; daughter, Lynn (Charles) of Edgemont, SD; son, Randy (Rita) of Withee, WI; and daughter, Doreen (Michael), of Appleton, WI; grandchildren, Theodore (Lan), Tonya (Jim), Ben (Hildi), Janine (Knox), Joseph (Jennifer), Charles (Gina), Walter (Jenn), Amanda (Blaine), Sarah (Matt), and Stephanie; great grandchildren, Cody, Emily, Daniel, Madeline, Ashlea (Jay), and Chelsea; great-granddaughters, Gianna and Mary Beth; great-great-granddaughter Adison; and his brother, George (Bernice) Budrus of Mosinee, WI.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, and sisters, Agnes, Margaret, and Marcella. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at St. Pius X Catholic Parish, 500 W. Marquette St. Appleton, with the Rev. James Jugenheimer officiating.
Ed’s family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Service to follow. Interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton, with full military honors. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Cherry Meadows Hospice Center, 2600 S. Heritage Woods Dr. Appleton, WI 54915.
