Edward J. “Ed” Beaver, 80, of Port Charlotte passed away July 9, 2018. He was the son of Edward Beaver and Martha and Herm Neil, born June 21, 1938 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Ed had a long career with the Battle Creek (Michigan) City Police Dept and, as an accomplished SCUBA diver, served on the Search & Rescue Dive Team.

He retired in 1987 as a Lieutenant, and came to this area and worked in security and management at River Commons. Ed was an active member of Peace River Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and in the AWANA children’s program. He enjoyed singing in the choir and playing drums during worship.

Ed spent many happy hours playing golf, target shooting and fishing; he enjoyed watching football and golf on TV, and playing cards with family and friends. Ed will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, M. Daneen Beaver; daughter, Jillayne Lazeration; sons, Jeff (Pam) Beaver, Greg Beaver, and Dan Beaver; daughter-in-law, Lisa Beaver; brother, Herm Neil; foster daughter, Melody (Matt) Geerlings; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Doug Beaver; brother, Jim Neil; and sister, Joyce Neil.

The service in celebration of Ed’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018 at Peace River Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assn. , Amer.
