Edward lived in Newport News most of his life until May of 2014. He lived at the home of his son Benny and his daughter-in-law Dreama in Hampton as they were his caregivers for the last five years.

Edward was employed by Encore Painting Company until his retirement. Survivors include his sons Benny Shields of Hampton, Jeff and Tommy Shields of Gloucester,; daughters Carolyn Shields Barber of FL and Deborah Hope Powell of Va. Beach; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille and a son Mikey. The family wishes to express thanks to Riverside Hospice of their love and compassion during this time. All services are private.
