Elaine M. Shepherd, age 77, of Huron Beach passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey. She was born April 5, 1941 in Detroit, the daughter of Peter and Josephine (Wilk) Shevock. On September 4, 1960 in Dearborn, Elaine married George W. Shepherd who preceded her in death in 2006.

Elaine grew up in Dearborn and graduated from Edsel Ford High School in 1958. Her attention to detail made her a perfect fit at the Hackett-Metcalf Funeral Home in Dearborn where she had worked for several years as a funeral assistant. She and George moved to their vacation home in Huron Beach in 1999 from Taylor.

Elaine was very civic minded and service oriented. She had been involved in Ducks Unlimited selling raffle tickets and securing donations. She also volunteered during elections.

For the last several years she was very active with the Cheboygan Eagles Ladies Auxiliary where she held numerous positions including President and Treasurer. At the Eagles she was in charge of the funeral luncheons, worked the annual salmon tournament banquet and was always involved in the Christmas party for the kids, the Easter Egg Hunt, Wednesday night Bingo, the Friday Fish Frys and selling raffle tickets. For her tireless work, she was voted Volunteer of the Year in 2008.

She enjoyed crafts, flower gardening and especially spending time with her family. Survivors include her four children, Kevin (Kathi) Shepherd of Northville, Shelly (Mike) Beam of Palm Harbor, FL, Patricia Shepherd of Flat Rock and Jeffrey (Rachael) Shepherd of Allen Park, brother, Lawrence (Kathy) Shevock of Gladwin, sister, Kathleen Toth of Allen Park, 11 grandchildren, Erin, Michael, Stephanie, Lauren, Amanda, Jordan, Joseph, Kyle, Aidan, Liam and Connor, 10 great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Lynn Ellison, her fiancé, Lonny Knaffle and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband George, Elaine was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Augostino and her brother, Peter Shevock.

Visitation will be held at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 1st from 4:00 – 8:00 pm with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 2nd at 11:00 am with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. Rev.

Duane Wachowiak will officiate and burial will take place at Mt. Cavalry Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Habitat For Humanity.
