Ervin Chester Erickson April 8, 1939 – April 21, 2018 Ervin Chester Erickson went to meet his Lord April 21st, 2018. May God watch over us all until we are together again. Born in Niles, Michigan, 1939 to Reverend Chester John and Ada Marie (Walter) Erickson, Ervin spent his childhood romping through Michigan and Colorado with his cherished older sister Eleanor and younger brother Paul.

Erv graduated from Petoskey High School in 1957, and from Michigan State University in 1961 with a degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration. He married Marshon, the love of his life, in 1961 and they moved to Washington State. Except 7 years in Denver, 1969 to 1976, Ervin raised his family and built his career in the Seattle area.

After 40 years in the Insurance industry in claim fraud investigation and health and pension plan management, Erv retired to Northern Michigan in 2001. A dedicated and gifted life-long member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, Erv lent his beautiful tenor voice to Barbershop Choruses and Quartets in Washington, Colorado, and Michigan. Through the Barbershop Harmony Society, Erv and Marshon made many wonderful, lasting friendships.

Barbershop singing was a passion for Erv; he longed to see more men become involved in this great American music tradition. If you have a voice, find or form a Chapter! Ervin was a man of deep, quiet faith.

He gave his life to Jesus Christ at age 8 and never wavered. Upon his return to Northern Michigan in 2001 he became and remained an active member of Petoskey United Methodist Church. A loving and devoted family man, Ervin C Erickson is survived by Marshon K (Smith) Erickson, his adored and adoring wife of 57 years; two daughters Michelle (Jeff) Stonehill and Lynn (William Damsgaard) Erickson; 4 grandchildren [Emma, Benjamin (Shelby), Lyra (Deanna), and Delaney]; 3 great-grandchildren (Scarlett Anne, Heidi Lou, and Austin Ervin); sister Eleanor (Cleon) Morgan and brother Paul (Sharon) Erickson.

Erv’s memorial service will be held at Petoskey United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 26 at 11:00AM. His family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. The family asks that you consider a donation in Ervin’s memory to the Amyloidosis Foundation (amyloidosis.org).
