Elaine Suzanne Hope, 44, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away on March 4, 2019. She was born on October 24, 1974 to James Griggs, Jr. and Suzanne Gail (Swepston) Burgess in Nowata, Oklahoma. Elaine graduated from Muskogee High School and then attended Connors State College where she obtained her associates degree.

Elaine married the love of her life, Michael Anthony Hope, on June 6, 2006 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They shared over 12 years of life and marriage together. Elaine was a teacher at Muskogee County Head Start and she thoroughly loved her job.

She was a member of Timothy Baptist Church. Elaine loved her family very much and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them. She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, James Griggs, Sr.; her maternal grandparents, Virgal and Iren Swepston, and Stanley Swepston. Elaine is survived by her husband, Michael Hope; children, Christin Storm and husband Justin, James Allen and wife Gracie, Shalee Arnold and husband Remington, Matthew Allen, and Miguel Hope; grandchildren, Addi Storm, Emmy Storm, Tucker Storm and Lucas Arnold; dad and mom, James Edward Griggs, Jr. and Debra Griggs; mother, Gail Burgess; siblings, James Edward Griggs III, and Amy Griggs; grandmother, Cora Lucille Griggs; aunts, Opal Huffman, Shirley Deson and husband JD, and Glenda Justus; uncles, David Griggs and wife Lynn, and Gary Sweptson; cousins, Julie Nichols, Robin Battinfield, Debbie Harn, Darci Stout, Holly Turner, Samantha Noel, and Tomi Griggs; and numerous other family members and friends. In lieu of flowers Elaine’s family has requested memorial be made to the American Cancer Society at: donate3.

cancer.org. A celebration of Elaine’s life will be 10AM, Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Timothy Baptist Church with Pastor Kelly Payne officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson Citizen’s Cemetery with Justin Storm, Remington Arnold, Rich Mitchell, Jack Mitchell, Clay Payne and Larry Leatherman.
