Elbert “Chuck”‘s Obituary DARBY, Elbert “Chuck” – Of Flint, age 78, died Tuesday, February 5, 2019. Funeral service will be held 1pm Friday, February 8, 2019 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Pastor Steve Wood officiating. Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association. Visitation 10am Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Elbert was born in Flint on October 19, 1940, the son of the late Elbert Roy and Elizabeth Frances (Stepanof)Darby.

On September 15, 1962, he married Patricia Rose Kremer at the Congregational Church of Grand Blanc. Elbert was a Navy Veteran. He also served as a Flint Police Officer of 25 years as a Homicide Detective, retiring in 1986.

Elbert was also employed with the Michigan State Police, working to stop auto theft. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Moose and Elks Club and was an avid golfer. Surviving are children, Brett (Regina) Darby, Denise (Rodney) Church and Brian Darby; grandchildren, Kendra (Justin) Kromrie, Kyle Darby, Nicholas (Morgan) Church, Darby Church, Benjamin Church, Amber (Ryan) Kamm, Garrett (Alyssa Sayles) Darby and Carson Darby; great-grandchildren, Scarlett Kromrie and Delaney Patrick; sisters, Beverly Gibeaut, Jane Darby, Wendy Navin, Susan Nehonsky, Kelly Bruff and Barb Lewis; brother, Jerry (Shirley) Darby.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Rose Darby.
