Eldon’s Obituary Eldon “Gene” Allen, 91, passed away on February 16, 2019 at his home in Leavenworth, KS. He was born on December 4, 1927 on the family farm in Leavenworth County, the son of Ernest W. Allen and Anna Haupt Allen. On June 7, 1952 he married Wilma J. Gilman.

They were blessed with 60 years and three children. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Wilma, brother, Leo and sister, Martine VanNorman. Survivors include his children, Paul and wife Kimberly Allen of Sedalia, MO; Jane and husband Richard Taylor of Stark City, MO; Ernest and wife Cheri Allen of Easton, KS; 7 grandchildren: Isaac, Hannah, Robert, Gabriel, Abigail, Joshua and Jacob and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Lucille Martens, Geraldine Dohrn, Joan and husband Richard Buchannan; sister-in-law: Pauline Freed Woodward.

Gene was a 1946 graduate of Leavenworth High School, served in the U.S. Army for 3 years with a tour in Korea. He worked for AT&T as a PBX Repair and Installation specialist, retiring after 33 years. He then went to work for the next 10 years in Maintenance for Leavenworth Public Schools.

His hobbies included bee keeping, wood working and bird watching. He was a member of First Christian Church, Leavenworth KS with the distinction of Elder Emiratis and named a life-long member of the Telephone Pioneers. He was a faithful man who loved and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and helping others.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 P.M. Friday, February 22 at Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee ST, Leavenworth, KS followed by a Celebration of Life at 6 P.M. A private burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions to First Christian Church and Meals on Wheels of Leavenworth County. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 PM, Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Davis Funeral Chapel follow by a Celebration of Life service at 6 PM Friday at the funeral chapel.
