Eleanor Grace Smith Glover, 91, of Givens Estates in Asheville passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018. Born in 1927 in Rockingham, NC, she was a daughter of the late Albert Lee and Janie Gibson Smith. Grace married Donald Jackson Glover in Washington, D.C. on February 8, 1948.

Mrs. Glover is predeceased by her husband, Donald, her son, Arthur, and one great-grandchild. Surviving are her children, Benjamin Glover, of Baltimore, MD, Ann Glover, of Brunswick, MD, Gail Hall, of Fort Smith, AR, Lenore Glover, of Pasadena, MD; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Nelson Smith of Raleigh, NC and sister, Jean Lamb of Lumberton, NC.

Mrs. Glover graduated from Ellerbe High School in 1945, worked for the Navy Department, Veterans Administration, studied at George Washington University, exhibited artwork at Lisner Auditorium, became a Girl Scout Leader, member of a national Episcopal Church board, won Toastmasters awards, editor of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church newsletter, and received a B.S. Degree from University of Maryland School of Architecture in 1978. In May 1986, Grace and Donald moved to Asheville, where they exhibited their love of nature by hiking the Black Mountain Crest, Appalachian, Bartram, and Mountain-to-Sea Trails, in addition to bushwhacking and habitual trail maintenance. Grace also exhibited her kindness and caring of others through her membership in Leadership Asheville Seniors II, as secretary of Asheville North Carolina Alliance for the Mentally Ill and longtime membership of several Asheville writers’ groups.

She also has exhibited creative talents with her quilt and clothing designs at the NC Arboretum in a one-woman show, Center for Craft Creativity and Design, WCU Heritage Center, Asheville Art Museum, Knoxville Fiber Arts Centre, Calvary Episcopal Church and has won many awards as a member of Western Carolina Quilt Guild and Charter Member of Asheville Quilt Guild. No service is planned. Memorials may be made to Cavalry Episcopal Church Food Pantry, the Supplemental Assistance Fund at Givens Estates, or the charity of your choice.
