Elena (Helen) A. McDonough (nee Soriano) December 5, 1920-June 25, 2018 Wife, Mom, Nana, and Gigi Elena “Helen” McDonough, 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 25, 2018, at the Parker McCarrick Care Center in Somerset, New Jersey. Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 4 pm to 8 pm in the Condon Funeral Home, 684 Kearny Ave. Kearny, NJ.

Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 10am in St. Stephen’s Church, Kearny. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, N. Arlington. Helen was born on December 5, 1920, a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Soriano of Newark, NJ.

She married John G. McDonough Sr. in May of 1949. Helen was an active member of The Kearny Harmony Club, The Catholic Daughters Court Cecilia #811,, the Marconi Club and many other clubs and organizations in Kearny. Helen was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others.

She wanted to be included in all activities and loved to laugh, sing, dance, and have fun. She was always the life of the party bringing joy to all. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband of forty years, John G. McDonough Sr. in 1987 and her loving siblings: Thomas Soriano, Frank Soriano, Josephine Aromando, Rose Pallante, and Edith Picciano.

She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her sister Aurora Bibona of Lyndhurst, NJ and her loving children: Dr. John McDonough and his wife Kathleen (Curcio) of Edison, NJ; Elena and her husband Benjamin High of East Brunswick, NJ; Lorraine and her husband Dennis Traczykowski of Edison, NJ; and Karen and her husband James O’Donnell of Matawan, NJ. She also leaves behind her adoring thirteen grandchildren: Kelly Smith and her husband Jeremy, John McDonough and his wife Christine, Lauren Traczykowski, Kimberly Macomber and her husband James, Kristen Drews and her husband Kenneth, Daniel McDonough, Jessica Jirak and her husband Jarrett, Andrew High, James O’Donnell and his wife Skylar, Dennis Traczykowski, Raymond McDonough and his wife Meghan, Patrick O’Donnell, and Katherine O’Donnell. Also survivng are her cherished great grandchildren: Emma, Owen, Annabelle, and Cooper Smith; Ryan and Nora McDonough; Isabelle, James, and Chloe Macomber; Abigail and Kenneth Drews; and Parker and Braydon O’Donnell.

They loved their Gigi and enjoyed spending time with her. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
